Moving to a new town can be hard. But with amazing non-profits such as Fremont Adventure Recreation (FAR), one can gain that sense of community and a feeling of belonging. FAR's mission is, "to promote a culture of community and healthy living through outdoor recreation in the Royal Gorge Region". They create community running events and other recreational events throughout the year AND operate the 1% for Trails Community Initiative, allowing businesses to collect a 1% donation on purchases that directly funds trail systems in the area.
We fully support the awesome work that FAR does for the local Royal Gorge community and hope to become a healthy part of that community too.
A healthy community can lead to so many opportunities for improved family relationships, new friendships, a sense of community, and an awareness of self. Through ConserVANtion we want to increase outdoor education for youth, families, and communities as a whole, similar to the goals of FAR.
Last Saturday I ran the 2nd Annual Snow Queen 5k, which helped increase awareness of women's health and was a great community event! About 150 women headed out on the trails that morning to run 3.1 miles and support one another. A few kings made appearances to show their support as well! Photo by Charlene Lindner.
FAR's 2018 Adventure Guide is coming out March 10th! Don't forget to grab your new copy and check out the latest trail systems and news! (For sure check out the Hogbacks Open Space on page 16, where my photo made the cut.)
I think this is an amazing organization and I hope that you check it out to learn more! It really helps insprire and motivate us to see that there are others out there who have similar goals in mind and are making their dreams come true, whether it be planning a community recreational event, or maintaining some awesome trails for families to get out and enjoy.
